My dear friend Marla once beautifully described our journey here as living at the intersection of Spirit and the world of form. I’ve always loved how she expressed it.
It truly captures how it feels on days when I am living with purpose — not drifting into the spiritual realm or getting lost in the practical details, but standing right at that crossroads. One foot in each world, with both feet feeling grounded and honored.
In those early years after Bryan’s passing, I worried I was spending too much time in the spirit realm. I felt guilty for craving that connection with him so much. Sometimes I felt a little worried about dedicating so much time to readings, meditations, signs, and synchronicities. I wondered if I was avoiding the real, tangible life. I know I had friends who secretly thought I was.
Now, I no longer worry about it.
I’ve come to see that this is precisely where I am meant to be — here and there, connected with my husband, my family, my friends, and the work I love, all while staying connected with God, my son, my spirit guides, and the greater purpose Bryan and I are walking together.
Both. Simultaneously.
It turns out, we don’t have to choose. We don’t have to give up the physical world to be truly spiritual, nor do we need to abandon spirituality to be fully present in this life. We get to live beautifully at that intersection.
What does that look like? It’s asking your loved one for a sign and then confidently going about your day. It’s talking to your family members and your spirit guides on the same morning. It’s crying over a song and then heading to make dinner.
Remember, spirit isn’t somewhere else — it’s right here with us.
And the more time you spend at that intersection, the more you’ll feel embraced by both worlds, rather than torn between them.
They’re not separate worlds at all; they’re simply one and the same, and somehow we’ve been taught to see them as different.
Stand in the middle with both feet firmly on the ground. You are right where you are supposed to be.
